Faulty Medical Ventilator Controller Board Troubleshooting can be carried out by below methods based upon the technical personnel experience and limited terms:
Cleaning and descaling
After the Medical Ventilator device is used for a period of time, a large amount of dust will be adsorbed on the surface of the controller board. This dust will cause the components on the circuit board to fail to dissipate heat, resulting in abnormal work or even damage, especially on some chip pins on the PCB mainboard. If the dust is too much, it will cause the chip to work unstable, or even cause a short circuit to burn the chip.
The various input and output connectors on the circuit board are also often oxidized, resulting in poor contact. Therefore, cleaning the dust and removing the rust on the circuit board as a conventional means, to troubleshoot these simple root cause, it is also beneficial to observe other conditions on the circuit board.
Although this method is simple, it is really necessary and can also be used as a means of regular mainboard maintenance.
The following is a typical case I encountered in my work: The Bellco Medical Ventilator machine turned on with a black screen and beeping.
Check all the connections of the CPU board and find that the connectors are not oxidized. Check the CPU board and find that there is a lot of dust on the board. After cleaning with a brush and a vacuum cleaner, restarting is still not stable, so remove the CPU control board and carefully clean the circuit board with alcohol. The dust, especially between the pins of the components, is blown dry and reinstalled. The machine is turned on for many times and the test is normal, and the fault is eliminated.
Detection of fuses is also a commonly used method to rework a control board
Many circuit boards have fuses to prevent the components on the circuit board from being burned out when the current is too high. Therefore, if a CPU board is found to be faulty, the fuse on the electronic printed circuit board should be troubleshooted and eliminated as soon as possible. If the fuse is only burnt out, it can be restored to normal when the fuse of the same specification is replaced often.
